Bare Compare

A fast, focused file and folder comparison application for developers, writers, and anyone who needs to know precisely what changed.

Bare Compare puts two versions of anything side by side and highlights the differences with clarity — individual files, entire directory trees, or the results of a merge. It is a native desktop application built in Rust, designed to stay responsive on very large files and deep folder structures where general-purpose tools slow to a crawl.

We think comparison tools should be quiet and quick. No project setup, no waiting, no interface competing for attention with the thing you are trying to read. Open two things, see the difference, move on.

Side-by-side clarity

Aligned panes with clear markers for added, removed, and changed content, so differences are obvious at a glance.

Folder comparison

Compare entire directory trees, filter out the noise, and drill into any file that differs without leaving the view.

Built for large inputs

Written in Rust for speed and low memory use, so big files and deep trees stay responsive.

Works from the terminal

An optional command line tool launches comparisons from your shell or wires into existing version control workflows.

An independent Australian software company

Fruit Salad Tech Pty Ltd is a privately held company registered in Australia (ABN 50 629 936 661). We design and publish desktop software for professionals, working directly with the people who use our tools rather than through resellers or intermediaries.

Our focus is native desktop applications: software that runs locally, respects your machine's resources, and does not require an account or a network connection to do its core job. We build primarily in Rust, and we ship the same application across macOS, Windows, and Linux.

The company is led by Alex Vassiliev, who has spent his career building software systems and now works on the tools he wanted to have while doing it.
